A Very Merry Christmas
Happy New Year! Even though Christmas has come and gone, I thought I should still write a little something about our Christmas. We had a very merry Christmas. We had two celebrations with my family on the Friday before Christmas and then on Christmas Eve. On Christmas day, we celebrated with just the four of us. This was the first time we'd spent Christmas day "alone." It was very nice and relaxing.

Our tradition for our family is to get the kids each 3 gifts. This we implemented for many reasons, but I think for me the biggest reason is to stop me from overspending. It is so easy to want to buy the kids everything we see that they may like or want!
We did something special for the kids this year. We told them that if they were really good we would let them have a sleepover in the office together. This was our secret way of getting them to sleep somewhere other than their bedroom. We were busy until 2:30 AM putting together new bunkbeds for the kids!
On Christmas morning the kids came down and found their gifts - Michael got an air hockey table as his "big" gift and Liliana got a tumbling mat. After Michael and Liliana got over the excitement of these gifts, we opened the remainder of their gifts and had breakfast.
Then as the kids were beginning to play with their toys we called them upstairs to get dressed. Little did they know there was a HUGE surprise waiting for them there. They came in the door and we got to watch as their mouths dropped open in surprise and delight at the sight of their new bunkbeds. Michael has been asking for bunkbeds for... we, forever it seems. This was one of the highlights of our Christmas, for sure.
We also let the kids pick out gifts for us this year. I was amazed at Michael's thoughtfulness as he came up with ideas for both Matt and myself. He told Matt he wanted to get me a new book "because Mommy really likes to read." He told me that he wanted to get Daddy a video game so they could play together and a sweatshirt because "Daddy said he needs a new sweatshirt."
When I asked Liliana what she wanted to get Matt she told me she wanted to get him a cupcake and a balloon. So, we bought a package of balloons and ordered one cupcake from the Farmington Bakery. So cute!
Of course, the best part was being able to share the story of Christ's birth with Michael and Liliana. We love how excited they are about Jesus' birth. At the beginning of December, we started having the kids memorize Luke 2:10-14. It was very fun for them and cute to have them recite it at our Christmas celebration for the family.
I do have to throw in one funny story about our dear son. We haven't told our kids anything about Santa. We talk about him as the kids bring him up. But, Santa doesn't bring gifts to our house and we don't go out of our way to visit Santa. Michael has come to his own conclusions about who Santa is and what he does. He was talking about Santa one day and we asked Michael about him. He told us that Santa is Jesus' helper and he sits next to Jesus in Heaven. So, that is who our boy thinks Santa is. :)
