Just a quick update on Liliana's surgery yesterday. Everything went really well and Liliana did great. We got to the hospital around 8:15 yesterday morning. Liliana wasn't restless at all - she was totally entertained by the toys she had to play with. And she looked super cute in her little hospital jammies they gave her to wear (especially because they were much too big). She went in for the surgery around 9:45. Matt and I got to hold her hands and talk to her as she fell asleep in the surgery room. They said they have never seen a kid take the gas so well (she had to wear a little gas mask) - apparently kids normally are fighting, kicking, and screaming by that point. She sat their like a champ and breathed in the laughing gas following by the sleepy gas. Once she was asleep we went back to our room and waited. The surgery took probably around 20 minutes. The doc stopped by and told us everything went really well. She did have lots of really thick fluid behind her ears, so he was glad that we opted to the surgery sooner rather than later.
About an hour later she was finally was awake enough to be brought back to the recovery room where we were waiting for her. They said all they needed for her to do was drink some juice and then we would be good to go. She drank 2 juice boxes. So, we thought we would be cleared to leave. Then another nurse came and said because she was coughing during the surgery they had to give her some drug (can't remember the name if it...) and for that reason we had to stay at the hospital for an additional 4 hours. Yuck! We didn't get home until around 3:00 yesterday afternoon.
Liliana did really well during this waiting period as well. She ate some jello and 2 granola bars, cuddled for about 45 minutes and then was jumping around the room. Mind you, this was only about an hour after surgery. And she had an IV in her arm. She was getting all twisted up in the IV tube. A couple times she tried to walk to far away from the IV bag and was yanked back by the IV coming out of her arm. She didn't seem bothered by it, though.
She has been nothing but delightful ever since the surgery. The only thing that bugs her is the ear drops. And now she knows what is going to happen when I lay her down with the tiny bottle of drops in my hand and starts crying before they even touch her ear. But, she usually is over that discomfort by the time I cuddle her in my arms when I'm done dropping them in.
We have a follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks. I am anxious so see how well her ears look and how well she does on the hearing test. No more excuses for not doing what Mommy and Daddy say!! :)
