Grandpa, Michael, Grandma, and Liliana
Great-Grandpa Hawks, Michael, Great-Grandma Hawks, Liliana
We also got a picture of Michael and Liliana with the people they were named after. This was a very special picture for us to capture. We wanted to give the kids family names so they felt connected to our family even though they are adopted.
Michael was named after Matt's dad, Michael Paul Hawks. Our Michael's full name is Michael Paul Milkias Hawks. Paul is a family name that has been passed down for many generations. Matt's middle name, as well as Great-Grandpa Hawks, is Paul. Liliana is named after Matt's grandma, Juanita Fay Pearl Hawks (Juanita Fay being her first name). Liliana's full name is Liliana Faye Pearl Mihret Hawks (again, Liliana Faye is her first name).
Back to our fun weekend ... Friday Matt got to come home early which was a nice treat for all of us. We spent time with our amazing neighbors playing in their pool. Saturday, the kids got to meet Grandma and Grandpa. Per our normal tradition when Matt's parents are in town, we all went to the Italian Pie Shoppe. We were blessed to have Matt's aunt and uncle, Marsha and Rick, join us because they were in town from Georgia. The kids did great at the restaurant. It was the first time we went out to eat where we had to wait for more than 5 minutes to get our food. I was quite impressed with their ability to sit still. And because their Hawks, they loved the Pie Shoppe.
Sunday we had Matt's brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Sarah, and their kids come over for a play date. The kids had a great time playing outside with the neighbors. Monday we spent the afternoon at Chris and Sarah's house for a picnic which included homemade ice cream. Liliana napped at their house. We wondered how she would do sleeping in a different location, but she did great.
Sunday night my sister, Sadie, had a family shower for me. It was fun to see family members that we don't get to see very often. The kids had a quick meet and greet because of their new, more strict, schedule. While I was at the shower, Matt was home alone with the kids doing our dinner and night-time routine. He, of course, did a wonderful job at feeding, bathing, and getting the kids ready for bed. If my mom, Taija, and I hadn't burst into the house at 7, Matt would have had them sleeping in a few minutes. Although we wound them up a bit, they went to bed great last night.
We have been following the stricter schedule per the doctor's orders. She was right - the kids are doing much better at sleep times. Michael only whines half the time now. Liliana is still getting out of bed and poking Michael until he cries, but I only have to go in once to put her in bed, give Michael a kiss, and then they fall asleep very quickly. Last night I taught Michael how to tell Liliana "no" and roll away from her if she comes over a bugs him at night. He nodded his head as if he understood, but I am not sure he did. Only time will tell.
We've heard back on 2 items from the doctor so far. One is that Liliana has a level 1 iron deficiency. She is on an iron supplement for 8 weeks. It makes her poop very dark and stiff, for lack of better work. Hard to clean up, but way better than diarrhea. In case you were wondering...
We heard today that Michael does not have an parasites. Yay! But, his white blood cells are high. This usually means he is fighting off a parasite or has allergies. Since it is very typical for kids from Ethiopia to have parasites they are going to re-test 3 new stool samples to double check that he does not have parasites.
I think that is all for now. More soon...
