WARNING: IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING ABOUT POOP, DON'T READ THIS POST! :)
Mishap #1:
When potty training your child, always leave your child on the potty for enough time to allow your child to go potty. And when you take her off, immediately put a diaper on her.. or the potty could end up on the floor.
Personal Example: One night we put Liliana on the potty. After a few minutes she had not gone, so we took her off. She was naked playing nicely with her brother so we decided to let her play for a few minutes. The next thing we knew, there was a pile of poop on the floor and a stream of pee running on top of it. Whoops.
Mishap #2:
When potty training a child that doesn't say many words and doesn't understand many words either, be careful what words you use to describe going potty ... because she might use that funny word forever to mean 'potty.'
Personal Example: One night last week Liliana was super gassy, but never went poop before she went to sleep. So, as she was laying in bed I whispered to her, "Liliana, if you need to go poopy, say 'Dada' and Mommy or Daddy will come to help you go potty on the toilet." (I chose the word 'Dada' because she doesn't say Mommy yet). Ever since then whenever she has to go poopy or has poopy in her diaper, she pats her butt and says, "Dada." Whoops.
