Lost & Found

After weeks and weeks of waiting (ugh!) we finally have an update on our adoption of the twins.  We found out yesterday that the staff in Ethiopia finally received the Guardianship Letter.  This letter, they told us, would only take two weeks to receive.  Instead it took 6 weeks.  This is completely normal with international adoption, but it was still extremely frustrating.

The staff in Ethiopia received the Guardianship letter last Friday.  Because this was the final document they needed they planned on submitting our case to court this week.  Then, a strange turn of events happened.  On Sunday night the twins' birth mother showed up.  She has been missing since June 15. Because she is back in the picture, they need her to appear in court.  They were able to get her a court date for tomorrow (August 9).

There shouldn't be any problems with the court hearing tomorrow.  If all goes well, they will have the documentation of the court hearing and all our other paperwork ready to submit to the courts in Addis Ababa for a court hearing by the end of the week.

The courts are expected to close around August 21.  One staff person at the adoption agency said there was probably no way for us to get to court in the next two weeks.  Another said we may be able to squeak in before they close.  We aren't counting on being able to go to court in August (but still praying fervently that we do!), but are hoping to go as soon as the courts re-open in early October.

If we go to court in October, it is likely that we will travel to Ethiopia to bring the twins home in January.  We are praying that we get them home in December.

Please pray for the birth mother interview tomorrow at court.  Ethiopia is 8 hours ahead of us, so if you wake up in the middle of the night tonight, that would be a great time to pray. :)
